Phew! What a scorching week it’s been in school this week in so many different ways. I rang up a local building firm this week, I said 'I want a skip outside my house.' He said 'I'm not stopping you, go ahead!' It’s been SPORTS WEEK in school this week and the weather has been great (even too good sometimes!!). Children have taken part in a wide range of sports and activities all week and also studied various aspects of keeping healthy and fit in class too. It’s been a brilliant week. Monday kicked us off as everyone dressed as their sporting hero and we managed to raise a few hundred pounds for play equipment. We had all sorts of heroes coming into school. The pictures are on the website. The rest of Monday saw all children Zumba throughout the day. Children had a great time dancing in each hall with Leah, our dance tutor. Video clips are on the website too. Tuesday was even better!! Tuesday was Potted Sports Day. Children played a range of different activities that included; cricket, football, belly dancing, yoga, bench-ball, tennis. The weather was fab and the children spent all day sporting around! Pictures are on the website. Wednesday was the BIG DANCE OFF. You can see video clips of the dancing on the website. KS1 children showed us three great dances with Ali our KS1 dance tutor. You can see how much they enjoy it, even in front of so many spectators at our Dance Assembly! This was matched against Y3’s MAYPOLE DANCING. This is a first for Highbank for many many years. This is really complicated but our Y3s nailed it! I was so impressed with them. GLOBETROTTER THURSDAY saw a giant super star visit school! Paul Sturgess used to play basketball for the Harlem Globetrotters! He is the tallest professional basketball player in the world ever! He is a massive 7’7”. He worked with all the children throughout the day honing their basketball skills. The children really enjoyed their day with him. There are some pictures of this on the website too. The week culminated with SPORTS DAY on Friday. We needed to change the arrangements late in the week to make sure children were not sat in the sun for too long but it didn’t affect the children’s excitement. We hope parents enjoyed seeing their children competing in a wide range of races like the famous “Late for School Race”, obstacle race, water race and many more. All the children enjoyed a picnic lunch in the middle of the day and lots of our parents joined us for this too. We hope you and the children had a great day. It was the perfect end to a busy but brilliant week in school. Have a good weekend everyone. Mr C.
