Happy Thursday Everyone!!
I heard this in school this week:Teacher working with a child in Phonics. Teacher and child working on medial vowels digraphs, developing phoneme/grapheme correspondence:
Teacher, “ How many phonemes does ‘mouse’ have?”
Teacher, “Excellent! What phoneme does Mouse begin with?”
Teacher, “Fantastic, what other sounds can you hear in ‘mouse’?
Children say the funniest things!
Today we had the largest Easter Bonnet Parade ever! There must have been 70 entries. They were all shapes, sizes and colours. It made for a wonderful display. The judges have a difficult job selecting prizes from so many entries and such a high standard too. Well done mums, dads and children. We are all looking forward to The Great Easter Fayre after school today. We hope lots of you are able to come and take part. Mr Oxley, Miss Kershaw and the staff have worked hard preparing for this event.
I’m really excited to be able to tell you that next term we are planning on beginning our own Family Bingo Night every fortnight. Parents and children can buy a game card or two (or three) and play along with us. We will have prizes for ‘Lines’, ‘Corners’ and ‘Full House’ of course. I know it’s going to be great.
AND ALSO….. we are planning on starting The Great Highbank Quiz Night for families to compete against each other. We’ll let you know the details as soon as they are finalised.
Last Friday was SPORT RELIEF Day and we raised £200. Well done everyone. The whole day was Sport! Children took part in loads of sporting activities and had a really great day. The main part was running the mile. This was 13 laps of the football pitch! All our F2 children achieved this….how impressive is that? Speaking of sport, we are currently finalising plans for Sports Weeks at Highbank in the Summer. We have loads of great things planned. Let’s hope the weather is good.
Y2 performed a terrific assembly today. We had lots of parents come and watch too. They told us what they had learnt studying different cultures. It was really interesting. Well done Y2. Next week, as part of their work on diversity, Y2 are catching the Tram to visit the synagogue in the city. It’s very exciting.
As Y2 have worked so hard, we’ve decided they can have Friday and Monday off school! In fact let’s be generous and let everyone have a couple of days off too but don’t be late on Tuesday. We’ve got another busy week again next week, especially with parents’ evening next Thursday. We look forward to seeing you all then.
Happy Easter everyone, have a great weekend.
