Oh Happy Days…(I’m sure I know a song about that) …..It’s Friday!
What a welcome back to school we’ve had this week! No sooner had we settled in on Monday, we had the call from OfSTED at 12:00 p.m. to say they’d be inspecting the school on Tuesday and Wednesday.
So we had a quick hoover-up and welcomed three inspectors into school first thing on Tuesday morning. They have been very positive and affirming about the school and are very pleased and impressed by our children’s behaviour, work ethic and progress. I was very proud of our children. As always, they showed courtesy, good manners and their enjoyment of school; well-done kids. The report will be published in a few weeks. As soon as it’s ready we will let you know and put it on the web-site.
So, welcome back everyone! We hope you had a restful and joyful half term break. We are now entering the last push for the year but it doesn’t get any easier; we have a busy half term planned. This week has been unusual anyway because the school has acted as a polling station. This gave the children a day off and us a chance to get stuck into writing school reports for each child throughout the school. These are due out on Friday 14th July. We shall be open for parents to come and discuss these reports on Monday 24th July after school. I had a lovely peaceful day in school!
As if SATs and Inspection isn’t enough, next week is Phonics Screening Week where we assess children’s phonics skills in Y1. We know they are going to do really well.
Our favourite visitors have been into school working with Mr Mayfield’s class and Mr Morledge’s class: THORNTONS ! Children learned about how chocolate is made from a cocoa pod, they tasted all the ingredients separately, made some chocolate and decorated by using some great ‘piping’ skills. Sounds like a mouth-watering day!
Coming up soon is SPORTS WEEK. Week beginning 19th June is Sports Week in school. We shall send out a flyer with all the details but briefly there’ll be: ‘Dress up Monday’ (sports hero), Potted Sports, Sports Day (21/06/17), ‘Dance-Off Thursday’ and ‘Globetrotter Friday’. Also during the week there will be the culmination of the Champions League against the staff and the table tennis finals. At the end of the week, there will be a celebration assembly to round it off.
We know it’s going to be a great week. Let’s hope the weather is kind to us. I might even get my shorts out. The last time I tried being sporty was a while ago. I rang the local gym and asked them if they could teach me to do the splits.
They asked, “How flexible are you?”
I said, “I can do Mondays or Wednesdays!”
Unfortunately, because of the inspection, we had to postpone the group and class photographs. We are contacting the photographers to re-booked this for as soon as possible. We’ll let you know as soon as possible.
See you on Monday, don't be late.
